So another month of the season down and unfortunately I haven't had much luck in terms of getting back to racing. It's just been a month to reset and hopefully build back up to full fitness again to make a good end to the year.
At the start of the month I struggled with recovery from a virus and due to trying to rush back to France too quickly to try to complete in some UCI races the team had planned in Italy I had large bouts of nausea for over a week and it just felt like my body was rejecting any kind of riding I was trying to do. So, with me unable to train properly, still having bad back pain from my crash on top of struggling to breathe properly in training and races I decided it would be best to go back home to get some treatment and reset.
Over the next couple weeks, after taking a few days completely off the bike to recover, I was able to get back to some low intensity training but could still feel the breathing issues during and after every ride making it impossible to add in any kind of intensity. Now finally after many doctors visits and blood tests to try to find out what's going on the doctors prescribed me with an inhaler which they hope will relax my airways meaning I shouldn't have the same symptoms as before. After trying this over the past few days its definitely made a difference and I have finally been able to get in some VO2 efforts with no issues however still doesn't feel quite 100%. The main thing is now I can start to sharpen my top end ready to return to some racing in August.
All being well I will return to France this Tuesday and go to the Tour of Namur in Belgium on Thursday. I have no clue where the form is at so no expecting anything at all but I am hoping after the first 2 days my legs should open up to allow me to get some sort of result later into the race.
One of these days I will be able to write into here with some good news about good results but for now I just need to build up slowly and trust if I am doing the right things the results will follow.
